Look around your house for any water spots in your ceiling after a bad rain or hail storm. If you see any, you probably have roof damage. Walk outside around your house and look for any visible damage or missing shingles.

inspect-your-roofNext, call a reputable roofing company to inspect your roof and to locate the cause of any water spots or leaks in your roof. He will then need to give you an estimate to fix the damage and then take the necessary steps to stop any further water damage.

Be sure that the roofing contractor gives the estimate with a list of items that includes all charges, including materials, tear off and clean-up. You will need a detailed estimate so you can make a claim on your home insurance.

Some roofing companies such as Northwest Roofing of Haslet will work with your insurance company. Remember, your deductible will be your responsibility and not the roofing contractor.

Home Insurance Deductible

Usually there are two different deductibles on your homeowners insurance policy.

  1. Covers for wind and hail damage.
  2. Covers “other perils” which is anything that is not weather related.

After you pay your deductible, your insurance company is responsible for the rest of the payment to your roofing contractor. Any high claims that are made on your homeowners insurance, by law, your insurance company must contact your mortgage company. Be sure to get the check endorsed by your mortgage company so that you can pay your roofing contractor immediately.
